DISS ORGAN FESTIVAL 2020 - ANNOUCEMENT

The Diss Organ Festival has taken the very difficult decision to cancel this year's event which would have been held on the 16th-17th May 2020.

The health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and volunteers is our most important priority and we therefore feel this is the most appropriate decision to take at this time. However, we are very mindful that the current situation is changing rapidly and important decisions are being made almost daily. For now, the plan is to move Diss Organ Festival to the weekend of 15th & 16th May 2021.

We have had a very positive response for this year's Festival and had achieved a Heritage Lottery Grant and grants from, Diss Town Council, Diss Cyclothon, Norfolk Arts Fund, Diss Town Team, to make it even better so everyone involved is saddened by the necessary postponement.

All being well, we are looking forward to seeing you again next year.

Back by popular demand, the largest event of its kind in the UK.
The Diss Organ Festival will return to this picturesque Norfolk market town, on the 17th May 2021.

From famous British fairground organs, magnificent mobile concert instruments to beautiful Dutch street organs, the highways and byways of Diss, along with its popular Park, will be alive with the joyful sound of over 50 mechanical music machines.

Visitors will have a chance at sampling life as "Organ Grinders" who, over a century ago, were a familiar sight roaming the streets bringing music to the public. Continental café organs and bijou busker organs too will be entertaining with their delightful melodies.

Steering this popular event is Jonny Ling, founder of The Grange Musical Collection at Palgrave, on behalf of the Mechanical Organ Owners Society whose members are bringing these amazing instruments from across Britain and The Netherlands.

"The Musical Box Society of Great Britain are presenting a fascinating exhibition of superb Victorian musical boxes and rare mechanical musical instruments" at the Corn Hall said Jonny, "And there will be organ recitals by concert organists with the Theatre Organ Club staging a nostalgic 1920s silent movie to dramatic organ accompaniment, recreating the early cinema before soundtracks were incorporated in the film."

In addition, a display of vintage vehicles in the Park, together with veteran traction engines in steam, will be accompanied by the Diss Rotary Club barbecue. There will also be stalls and refreshments available throughout the town. Many shops and businesses are opening especially for the day.

The inaugural festival, held in 2018, was a huge success with over 6,000 people pouring into the town for the event and sampling “Diss At Its Best” so come along and be serenaded in a day of pure fun!

The Aims of the Festival are to bring together Organ Owners and Enthusiasts from all of the UK, and Europe. Because Diss is so close to the ferry terminals, we are hoping we can bring our Continental and UK friends together at this new friendly event.

There's also an open day at 'The Grange' Collection of Mechanical Music with nearly 60 different instruments to listen to on Saturday the 16th, meaning you can 'make a weekend of it'!
